THE RESEARCH LIBRARY

As a complement to the College Library, the Gallery has a research facility, which serves as fertile ground for intellectual stimulation, while documenting the growth and development of the visual arts.  It contains a significant collection of exhibition catalogs, study materials, and an interactive library providing access to works of art, the voice of their creators, as well as relevant commentaries from critics and historians.  The research library is a pivotal part of the Gallery's commitment to serve the community by supporting its educational outreach efforts.

The following are just some of the archives available through this facility:

The Randy Barcelo Archives - These archives hold visual and photographic documentation of his career. Born in Cuba, he distinguished himself as a Broadway musical costume and set designer during the mid 1960's and 1970's.  He was nominated for a Tony Award for his work in the hit musical Jesus Christ Superstar.  Barcelo's family named the QCC Art Gallery, along with the University of Miami, as depositories for the artist's work.

The Wyppensenwah Archives - These archives hold significant photographic documentation of the American Indian presence on Long Island and they also contain an ethnological collection of photographs from Africa, Asia, and China.

John Hawkins Archives - This collection of more than 3,000 exhibition catalogs is housed in the QCC Research Library providing a tremendous overview of arts programming over the last several decades.

Albert Terris Archives - The QCC Art Gallery houses an extensive collection of this contemporary sculptor's personal writings, essays, and documents.

Martin Rosenthal Archives - These archives house a collection of this Ash Can School member's photographs, paintings, drawings, documents, and personal writings.
