Dawar Jamal, a Business major at Queensborough Community College, is the winner of the coveted David A. Garfinkel Essay Prize, a statewide writing contest sponsored by the Historical Society of the Courts of the State of New York. Students from approximately 50 SUNY and CUNY community colleges participated in the contest, submitting essays related to the 400th Anniversary of the Dutch Arrival in New York.
Mr. Jamal, a Flushing native, received a $1,000 award at a ceremony in Albany on May 1, which was attended by, among other notable officials, Governor David A. Paterson.
