“We’re all here with one mission - to educate ourselves”,” says future electrical engineer Ariel Khaimov.

Russian-born Ariel Khaimov has lived in New York City since he was four years old. He feels a connection to the culturally diverse student population at Queensborough. “We’re all here with one mission - to education ourselves,” Ariel says. As an Electrical & Computer Engineering Technology (ECET) major, Ariel is carrying out that mission. He enjoys working in a hands-on environment, and appreciates the camaraderie of his fellow students and professors who are part of the Technology Academy, which creates a structured learning environment for a small community of students with similar interests.

With the recommendations of his professors, including Stuart Asser, Chairperson of the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering Technology, Ariel received the Grainger Tools for Tomorrow scholarship based on his academic achievements, the help he extends to fellow students, and the construction of a binary clock as his special project. Grainger, a leading distributor of facilities maintenance supplies, awards the scholarship to only nine students nationwide. It not only provides Ariel with financial assistance, but also a technology tool kit that he received upon graduation to help him begin his new career. His goal is to earn both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering and to work in the field both as a technician and as a teacher.

“I am honored to have received the Tools for Tomorrow scholarship and grateful for Grainger’s financial support,” says Ariel. “The scholarship allows me to focus on completing my education and making a positive contribution to the electrical engineering profession.”
