Why students do research

Students typically feel a great sense of accomplishment; they gain new and important skills. Those skills include the ability to interpret experimental data, to ask the right questions, and to communicate effectively with others.  Students are often asked to present their results. Many students report conference presentations as the highlight of their research experience.  A presentation looks great on a resume.  In addition to research results, students may discover new things about themselves - maybe a future career!
