What is Student Government?

Student Government Assocation

Student government is an entity that was created to provide students the experience and training in the democratic form of the government. This group of students is charged with the duty of continuously expanding and coordinating a program of student activities, to stimulate interest and support in the development, assessment and execution of educational, social, cultural and recreational programs, to develop communication amongst students, administration and faculty. In effect, to represent the best interests of the general student body.

Student government also known as the QSA (Queensborough Student Association) Executive Board is composed of the following voting members- President, Executive Vice President, Administrative Vice President, Programming Vice President, Vice president for Evening Students, Vice President for Part-time Students and Treasurer. Non-voting members of the QSA Executive Board include President Pro-Tempore, Parliamentarian and Executive Secretary.

Student Government Elections

Every year during the Spring Semester, campus-wide elections are held for students to elect the Student Government for the following school year. Students are encouraged to serve in elective office and participate in student governance at Queensborough. Student representation in College and Student Committees provides the opportunity for student views to be expressed and heard, and to have a direct impact on virtually every aspect of College life. Involvement with campus affairs gives students the ideal setting to test out ideas and abilities, and develop the leadership, interpersonal, and organizational skills needed for a successful future.

The Election Process gives students the chance to practice their democratic rights and become part of the larger community, supplementing the classroom experience through extracurricular programs, affording students an exposure to and appreciation of individual differences. Students will enhance their decision-making, goal setting, and negotiating skills, leading to an improved academic, professional, and personal environment.
