Monroe Mustangs snap 11 match QCC Lady Tigers winning streak

The Lady Tigers won 11 straight matches with the final three against Kingsborough CC, Dutchess CC, and Monroe Express (D3). The Monroe Mustangs (D1) snapped that streak with a 3-0. The Lady Tigers are 14-3 on the season and look to get back to their winning ways.

The QCC Lady Tigers defeated Kingsborough CC, 3-0, to stay atop CUNYAC and Region XV while marking Head Coach Jason Demas' 200th victory making him the winningest head coach in QCC Athletics

The Tigers defeated Dutchess Community College, 4-1 on Saturday, 9/28 to bring their record to 5-3 on the season. The Tigers are on a 4 game winning streak.

    Paige Hughes, Athlete of the Week and Bianca Brierre, Rookie of the Week

    While the defending champion Tigers have won eight straight matches, all in Region XV, Hughes, QCC’s captain has led the way as of late. Last week, as the Tigers went 4-0, Hughes had four double-doubles. Brierre earns back-to-back rookie honors following another undefeated week for Queensborough.

    Tiffany Garcia-Lawson, Athlete of the Week and Bianca Brierre, Rookie of the Week

    Sophomore Tiffany Garcia-Lawson, had 25 kills and 10.5 blocks to lead the Tigers to four sweeps for the week, which included wins over Kingsborough and second-place BMCC. For the week, Freshman Bianca Brierre recorded 14 kills, 15 digs, 11 service aces, after being out for two weeks due to injury.

    Chidera Nwaghanata, Athlete of the Week and Amira Durkovic, Rookie of the Week

    Chidera Nwaghanata had seven kills (.333 hitting pct.) to help the Tigers sweep Bronx in QCC’s CUNYAC opener. The rising freshman tallied seven serve aces, 27 assists, and 11 digs for the week, helping the Tigers to a 1-1 mark last week.

    Rachel Medina, Athlete of the Week and Amira Durkovic, Rookie of the Week

    Rachel Medina stepped up big for the Tigers off the bench as an injury replace-ment to play outside hitter, a position she has never started at. Amira Durkovic, the talented setter racked up the stat sheet over the weekend. In her two matchups, Durkovic recorded 10 kills, 25 assists, 5 aces, and 13 digs.

    Gabriel Perez named Rookie of the Week

    Perez started the attack in the 20th minute scoring his first collegiate goal. He later would add two more goals, recording his first career hat trick.

    Women’s Basketball tryouts for the 2019-20 season will begin on Tuesday, October 1st at 6pm in the RFK Gymnasium. A valid physical form that is signed and stamped by a doctor, and validated insurance form are required to be submitted prior to participation.     QCC 1 of 713 Teams Recognized for Classroom Success

    Queensborough Women’s Swimming team was recognized by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) as a Scholar All-America Team for the Fall 2018 semester. The QCC Lady Tigers had a 3.13 GPA.

Athletics Department Mission Statement

The Queensborough Community College intercollegiate athletics department promotes student-athlete success by integrating academics and athletics into the student-athlete's overall college experience. We are committed to offering programs and opportunities that enhance the college experience, by promoting sportsmanship, commitment to academic excellence, diversity, and equitable opportunity for all of our student-athletes, while supporting the mission of the College.

Athletics Department Objectives

  • To develop and maintain programs that benefit the student-athlete both academically and athletically.
  • Employ coaches and staff that are knowledgeable and professional, that provide a high level of integrity, while conducting themselves in an ethical and sportsmanlike manner.
  • Strive for gender equity by providing equitable opportunities for both men and women. By developing and sustaining programs that help all student-athletes achieve their maximum potential, both academically and athletically.
  • Offer the appropriate academic advisement and support to all student-athletes.
  • Retain and graduate student-athletes, that at a minimum, reflect that of the Queensbororugh Community College student body as a whole.
  • Operate athletic programs at a high standard of honor, with a commitment to institutional integrity, academic achievement, and athletic competitiveness.
