#10 seed Queensborough defeated #12 seed Raritan Valley College 3 sets to 1 (14-25, 25-14, 25-22, 25-14) to finish 9th in the nation at the NJCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championships Tournament in Rochester, Minnesota. Congratulations Tigers!

#10 seed QCC went up against #10 seed Harper College in Rochester, MN. The Tigers played hard but were defeated in straight sets, 25-23, 25-23, 25-12. The Tigers next play in the consolation bracket at 2:20 p.m. CST vs. #11 FIT. #10 QCC defeated #11 FIT, 3 sets to 2 to advance to the 9th Place Match on Friday, Nov. 15 at 1 pm EST against #12 Raritan Valley. Go Tigers!

District Champions again!

For the 4th consecutive year, the Tigers are your NJCAA Division III Northeast District Champions after a convincing 3-0 win over Fashion Institute in the final game. Earlier in the day, the Tigers dispatched Massasoit CC, 3-0 to face FIT in a repeat of the Region XV finals. This time, we would not drop a set! Rochester, MN, here we come! Go Tigers!

    Coach of the Year - Aziwoh Ayafor, Queensborough

    During this season orchestrating the team, Ayafor led his team to become regular season champions 6-4 overall record and a perfect 3-0 during conference play. His team finished out the regular season winning three of the last four games.

    Chidera Nwaghanata, Athlete of the Week and Amira Durkovic, Rookie of the Week

    Nwaghanata, the two-time CUNYAC Player of the Week accumulated her best performances in the season against second-place BMCC, where she hit a season-high 10 kills and hit .714, which was also a season high to go along with three service aces and three digs. Durkovic, the four-time CUNYAC Rookie of the Week accumulated 78 assists and 28 digs in a rare 1-2 week for Queensborough.

    Georgia Alexiou, Athlete of the Week and Amira Durkovic, Rookie of the Week

    Alexiou, the lefty hitter had a stellar week, as the Tigers picked up wins in three regional matches and went 3-1 overall. Durkovic, the freshmen setter had stellar week as she recorded 63 assists and 13 aces.

    Tiffany Garcia-Lawson, Athlete of the Week and Bianca Brierre, Rookie of the Week

    Sophomore Tiffany Garcia-Lawson, had 25 kills and 10.5 blocks to lead the Tigers to four sweeps for the week, which included wins over Kingsborough and second-place BMCC. For the week, Freshman Bianca Brierre recorded 14 kills, 15 digs, 11 service aces, after being out for two weeks due to injury.

    QCC 1 of 713 Teams Recognized for Classroom Success

    Queensborough Women’s Swimming team was recognized by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) as a Scholar All-America Team for the Fall 2018 semester. The QCC Tigers had a 3.13 GPA.

Athletics Department Mission Statement

The Queensborough Community College intercollegiate athletics department promotes student-athlete success by integrating academics and athletics into the student-athlete's overall college experience. We are committed to offering programs and opportunities that enhance the college experience, by promoting sportsmanship, commitment to academic excellence, diversity, and equitable opportunity for all of our student-athletes, while supporting the mission of the College.

Athletics Department Objectives

  • To develop and maintain programs that benefit the student-athlete both academically and athletically.
  • Employ coaches and staff that are knowledgeable and professional, that provide a high level of integrity, while conducting themselves in an ethical and sportsmanlike manner.
  • Strive for gender equity by providing equitable opportunities for both men and women. By developing and sustaining programs that help all student-athletes achieve their maximum potential, both academically and athletically.
  • Offer the appropriate academic advisement and support to all student-athletes.
  • Retain and graduate student-athletes, that at a minimum, reflect that of the Queensbororugh Community College student body as a whole.
