Some Issues: Comprehensiveness
COMPREHENSIVENESS
In
addition to some policies (rules) are there to be programs for dissemination
of information, proactive strategies of deterrence, enlisting of
student participation, faculty development activities,
monitoring and assessment of effectiveness of policies and
programs?
If
any policy on Academic Integrity at either the university or college level is
to be promulgated it should be within a comprehensive program if there
is the expectation of reduction in incidence of violations. Not to do so and to initiate a set of
procedures to insure due process would indicate more of a concern for
reduction of institutional liability than for education of
students and preservation of academic integrity. Studies of academic integrity initiatives
and programs in higher education indicate that effectiveness
relates to many factors which become part of comprehensive
programs: effective dissemination, faculty development, proactive strategies,
etc…
