Three recent case studies are provided to help gain insight into organizational ethical issues and decision making.  The first two cases are also published in OC Ferrell, John Fraedrich and Linda Ferrell, "Business Ethics: Ethical Decision Making and Cases," Houghton Mifflin Company (2002).  The third case was prepared by Rod Henry, Carol Nielson and Jeff Totten of Bemidji State University.  The cases should be used for discussion rather than to illustrate either effective or ineffective handling of administrative, ethical or legal decisions by management.  We welcome the opportunity to post additional cases on this site.

The Infant Feeding Controversy: How should MNCs respond to protests against the ethics of their policies?

After more than 20 years of public controversy over the marketing of infant formula in developing countries, including extensive efforts by manufacturers, governments, international organizations, and activist groups to establish guidelines on marketing practices, strong disagreements continue concerning the products' merits, costs, and promotion.

This case has stirred interest in very diverse groups: the corporate business world, the medical profession, world activist groups, international health organizations, business school professors, and the church.  It thus appeals to students from various departments: marketing and business ethics, public affairs and public health, philosophy and theology, and others.
