Professor Frank Lagana

Professor Lagana has been teaching anthropology (and occasionally sociology) at Queensborough since 1973. He received his B.A. in anthropology in 1969 from Herbert H. Lehman College and studied anthropology at the Graduate Faculty of the New School for Social Research. He has done anthropological research on the island of Jamaica, focusing on the beliefs and practices of the Rastafarian movement. He’s also done research in the Canadian arctic on the effects that the tourist industry is having on the lives of native peoples. His research interests include popular music and culture, the peoples and cultures of the Arctic, and Caribbean history and culture, especially the religions of the area.
Professor Lagana currently teaches three courses: SS 110 - General Anthropology (offered every semester), SS 140 - North American Indians (offered in the fall semester), and SS 150 - Peoples and Cultures of the Caribbean (offered during the spring semester).
His office is in room 119 of the Medical Arts Building. Office hours this semester are as follows: Monday 2:00-2:30 P.M, Tuesday 4:30-6:00 PM, and Thursday 10:30-11:00 A.M. and 3:15-3:45 P.M.
