SCHOLARSHIP OFFERINGS

Welcome to the Queensborough Community College (QCC) scholarship website! Our goal is to provide students with one location to find accurate and up to date information regarding scholarships, both scholarships awarded by CUNY and Queensborough Community College, and scholarships awarded by external organizations (corporations, etc.) At the top of this page there are four tabs, one for QCC Scholarships, one for CUNY Scholarships, one for External Scholarships, and one for Scholarship Searches.

Academic Merit Scholarships for Freshmen
  • Need help meeting your educational expenses? Queensborough offers a number of full and partial scholarships for newly admitted freshmen. Click for more information and an application.
  • The dollar amount of these scholarships vary between $1,000 and full tuition depending on your academic record, and may be awarded each semester over two years (or four semesters).

To maintain eligibility:

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher at the end of each semester
  • Full-time status (12 credits or more)
  • Serve 1 year on President’s Council (student volunteer group)

NSF Grant - Scholarship Opportunity
  • Complete a minimum of 24 Queensborough Community College degree credits by January 29, 2010
  • Completed all remedial coursework
  • Register for a minimum of 12 credits in a degree program For the Fall 2010 semester by April 30, 2010
  • Cumulative G.P.A. of 3.25 or higher
  • $500 per semester for a total of two semesters

To maintain eligibility for one semester renewal:

  • Cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0 at the end of the first sememster you received your scholarship
  • Full-time status (12 credits or more)

The application will be available on-line by March, 2010.  Please check back at that time.

CUNY SCHOLARSHIPS
SCHOLARSHIP WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY DEADLINE AMOUNT

If you graduate from a NYC public or private high school with a "B" average or better, and enroll directly into a CUNY college within a year of graduation.

Maintain a "B" average or better for annual renewal.

Apply for admission to CUNY by completing the Freshman Application. The Peter F. Vallone Scholarship is based solely on academic achievement and is automatically awarded upon admission.

Up to $500 per year for a maximum of five years.  Associate's degree students are eligible for 6 semesters.
Students who have demonstrated creativity in the communication of the concerns of the Asian American community in the areas such as health, education and culture. Applicants can be Asian or non-Asian. TBA

Belle Zeller Scholarship
  • Registered for the Fall 2009 semester with full-time undergraduate status at CUNY carrying at least 12 credits. Applicant also will be registered in Spring 2010 taking at least 12 credits (both semesters) at a CUNY College.
  • Graduating Seniors from community-colleges are eligible if they are transferring to four-year colleges as a fullt-time student.
  • Full-time CUNY undergraduate students and have completed at least 16 credits at any branch of the City Unversity of New York with a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.75 or better
  • Show evidence of good character, and significant service to CUNY, the community, and/or their respective colleges by letters, and/or other documents
  • Qualities of individual character that show potential for leadership and future achievement
February 26, 2010 Yearly tuition for in-state students as set by the university and a stipend of $2,000 per semester toward the cost of their education

Hispanic Scholarship Fund Various deadlines depending on the scholarships (October 23,2009 - February, 2010)
  • Students must be of Hispanic heritage and be an American citizen or permanent resident.
  • Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher and plan to enroll full time in a degree seeking program.
  • Students must also apply for federal financial aid by completing the FAFSA. Successful candidates are selected on the basis of academic achievement and financial need as well as personal strengths and leadership.
  • Students may apply to as many scholarships for which they are eligible but may receive only one HSF scholarship per academic year.
2010 - 2011 The amount of the awards varies by scholarship.
Women's Forum Education Award December 1, 2009
  • Women over 35 years old who, after interrupting their education, are now pursuing undergraduate college degrees
  • Resident of New York City attending collegein New York City at least half-time
  • Did not qualify for graduation before December, 2009.

Morgan Stanley Richard B. Fisher Scholars Program December 8, 2009
  • Currently enrolled as a sophomore at the time of this application
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3 (on a scale of 4.0)
  • Black or Hispanic decent
  • Desire to work in the financial services industry

2010 - 2011 $7,500 during their junior year and the scholarship is renewable for their senior year.
Nancy Talbot Scholarship Award January 2, 2010

To qualify for the scholarship you must meet the following criteria:

  • A woman currently residing in the United States or Canada
  • Have earned a high school diploma or GED on or before September 2000
  • Enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-time or part-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited 2- or 4- year college, university, or vocational-technical school
  • Attending the full 2010-11 academic year and receiving a degree no earlier than May 2011
  • Have at least two semesters (24 credit hours or more) remaining to complete an undergraduate degree as of the beginning of the 2010 fall academic term.
2010 - 2011 The Talbots Scholarship Foundation will award $180,000 in college scholarships for the 2010 academic year, including up to 10 $15,000 scholarships and one $30,000 scholarship to an extraordinary finalist demonstrating courage, conviction and an insatiable entrepreneurial spirit
Kaplan Leadership Associate’s Degree Scholarship February 1, 2010
  • To be eligible you need to have completed between 12 and 30 credits (non-remedial) by the end of the Fall or Winter 2009 semester.  Have a minimum GPA of 3.25 or higher.  Be a current recipient of federal and/or state financial aid.
  • Be a member of an underserved or underrepresented population.

The 2010 Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship

February 1, 2010

Applicants must satisfy all of the following criteria to be eligible:

  • be a female student entering her senior year of undergraduate study or be enrolled in a graduate program in the 2010-2011 academic year at a university in the United States;
  • be enrolled in Computer Science or Computer Engineering program, or a closely related technical field as a full-time student for the 2010-2011 academic year;
  • maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale or 4.5 on a 5.0 scale or equivalent in your current program.
  • Citizens, permanent residents, and international students are eligible to apply. Past applicants and finalists are also encouraged to re-apply. If you have any questions, please email anitaborgscholars@google.com.

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship (Study Abroad) April 2010
  • U.S. citizen
  • The applicant must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant or provide proof that he/she will be receiving a Pell Grant at the time of application or during the term of his/her study abroad.
  • The applicant is applying to or has been accepted into a study abroad program eligible for credit by the student's accredited institution of higher education in the U.S.

  • Black, Hispanic and Native American sophomores from all majors who are interested in financial services and have a 3.5 GPA minimum.

There are a number of websites that offer you free scholarship searches.  We are happy to provide you with the list below.  However, please note that these scholarship searches are independent and in no way endorsed by Queensborough Community College.

Fast Web Scholarship Search
The FastWeb Scholarship Search is the largest, most accurate and most popular free scholarship search site, with more than 30 million registered users. It is also the most frequently updated and provides automatic email notification of new scholarships that match the student's profile. The FastWeb Scholarship Search was the first scholarship database available for free on the web and is the most innovative and student-focused of all the scholarship search sites.

College Board Scholarship Search
The College Board's FUND FINDER scholarship database lists scholarships and other types of financial aid programs from 3,300 national, state, public and private sources. The database is updated annually.
The Sallie Mae Fund
Students can now apply for more than $2 million in scholarships, a charitable organization sponsored by Sallie Mae.
Hispanic College Fund
Students currently enrolled in higher learning institutions such as colleges and universities, as well as vocational and trade schools can enter for a chance to win one of the scholarships. The award amounts vary and can be applied toward educational expenses.
United Negro College Fund Scholarships
Scholarships and faculty development grants administered by the UNCF are intended to facilitate access to UNCF member institutions and to strengthen the quality of education that these colleges and universities offer. You can use this site to search through hundreds of scholarship and grant programs administered by the United Negro College Fund.
Hispanic Association Colleges & Universities Scholarship Program
(HACU) Over 160 scholarships worth $270,000
