TRANSCRIPTS

TRANSCRIPTS ARE COPIES OF A STUDENT’S ACADEMIC RECORD.  By federal law (i.e. F.E.R.P.A.) a student must authorize release of their record in writing or by a specific identifier (e.g. PIN).  Transcripts can NOT be ordered by telephone EXCEPT THROUGH THE CREDENTIALS Inc. Service (See below) at an additional operator surcharge fee.

There are two kinds of transcripts: unofficial student copies and official copies.

  • Unofficial student transcripts …
… are unofficial copies that the student can request for his or her own records.

  • Official transcripts…
…are sent directly to other colleges and employers. Students should not have contact with an official transcript.
If a university or employer requires an official transcript to be submitted with a students application the student must make a specific request – WITH THE NAME OF the receiving institution – for an official transcript in a sealed envelope to be mailed to themselves.  BE AWARE - IF THE SEAL OF THE ENVELOPE IS BROKEN THE TRANSCRIPT IS NO LONGER AN OFFICIAL DOCUMENT.

How much does a transcript cost?
If you order your transcript in person or by mail there is a $7.00 fee (per copy) for student copies of transcripts and those sent to agencies and institutions that are outside of CUNY. There is NO fee for transcripts sent to the University Application Processing Center (UAPC) or to another CUNY college.
If you order a transcript through the on-line service there is a $9.00 fee for student copies and for transcripts going outside of CUNY. There is a $2.00 fee for transcripts going to CUNY colleges.
