Zalmen Mlotek's Magical World of Yiddish Song

The theater world is abuzz with the incredible success of the Yiddish language production of Fiddler On the Roof (Fidler Afn Dakh), directed by Joel Grey, musical direction by Zalmen Mlotek.  Aside from his masterful role as the musical director, Zalmen Mlotek was one of the visionary forces who made this theatrical "miracle of miracles" come to be. The world of Yiddish song is indeed magical in its role in Jewish life throughout the past 2 centuries.  Zalmen Mlotek's Magical World of Yiddish Song is an enriching, enlightening and highly entertaining program, with Mr. Mlotek at the piano and fantastic singers. Now, with the highly successful Fiddler Afn Dakh, a new chapter is added to this rich cultural history. Neil Berg’s 50 Years of Rock & Roll

Lucie Arnaz - I Got The Job! Songs From My Musical Past

October comes to an exciting close with show biz Royalty Lucie Arnaz in her hit show, I Got the Job! Songs From My Musical Past. Arnaz made her Broadway debut in 1979 in They're Playing Our Song, for which she won both the Theater World Award and the LA Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Actress in a Musical. She also toured with Tommy Tune in the international company of My One and Only, and appeared in such Broadway productions as Neil Simon's Lost in Yonkers, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and the recent revival of Pippin. No stranger to films, Arnaz starred with Neil Diamond and Laurence Olivier in The Jazz Singer, for which she earned a Golden Globe award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture. Lucie is the daughter of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, stars of the TV classic, I Love Lucy. Join us for a very special afternoon, as Lucie shares stories and anecdotes about her co-stars, and iconic songs from some of Broadway's greatest shows. Musical Director, Ron Abel.

Hand-picked to tour the world with the rock and roll legend, Valli knew instantly that the vocal blend of these four highly accomplished singers was uniquely beautiful in a dramatic and striking way. Not since the sounds of the Four Seasons or the Bee Gees has there been a group with this much vocal chemistry. Individually, Landon Beard, Todd Fournier and brothers Brian and Brandon Brigham have extensive Broadway, television and film credits. On stage together, they bring their charm, high energy and spot-on vocals, performing classic pop, rock and doo wop songs for a modern audience.

Melissa Manchester with special guest Billy Stritch

Grammy Award winning artist Melissa Manchester was born in New York where her father was a bassoonist for the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. Melissa graduated from the High School of Performing Arts, entered New York University and studied songwriting from none other than Paul Simon. While working as a solo singer/pianist in NY, she met Barry Manilow and Bette Midler. She became one of Bette Midler's backup singers and six months later had a recording contract. Her smash hit singles include: Midnight Blue, Whenever I Call You Friend, Through The Eyes Of Love and Don't Cry Out Loud just to name a few. Her songs have been recorded by Barbra Streisand, Roberta Flack, Johnny Mathis, Cleo Laine and Barbara Cook, among many others. In 1982 Melissa Manchester won the Grammy for Best Female Vocalist. She starred in Andrew Lloyd Weber's Song And Dance and Stephen Sondheim's Sweeny Todd, co-starred with Bette Midler in the film For The Boys, had a recurring role in the hit television series Blossom, composed for Disney and so much more.

Joining Melissa is award-winning composer, arranger, vocalist and jazz pianist of extraordinary range Billy Stritch. With a resume that reads like a who's who in show business, Billy has accompanied Mel Torme, Tony Bennett on the piano, arranged for Liza Minnelli, won a Grammy for the country song Does He Love You recorded by Reba McEntire, appeared on Broadway in 42nd Street, and appeared on a host of TV shows including The Oprah Winfrey Show and The Today Show.

Notes on this season:

  • Progress is being made in the renovations of the performing arts center, to accommodate patrons with disabilities. By revamping our venue, changes to the theater’s seating, concession, box office, restrooms, lighting and sound will be noticeable. The shows must go on, and so they will during our remodeling. Its business as usual, for QPAC and the thousands of patrons we serve. We are evolving to become an even more dynamic community cultural arts center. For the time being, our shows will be presented at St. John’s University. The only exception, are 3 special events, which will be presented at The Lexington Center. The names and addresses where each show will take place are specified on each individual event page.
  • ALL ABOARD! New this season, you will have access to a complimentary shuttle bus which will take you from the St. John University parking lot to the entrance of both Marillac Hall and The Little Theater before the show. The bus will also be available at the conclusion of each program, to assist patrons in returning to the parking lot. Keep an eye out for the BLUE Supershuttle van.
  • Restrictions on tickets, including subscriptions, refunds and exchanges remain in effect.
  • Specific seats purchased will be reserved and honored at the location for each event. You will be seated in the seat you purchased. Our on-line seating maps correspond to each venue. You will not need to exchange your tickets on the day of the event.
  • Fear not, our beloved ballet and opera programs will resume, upon the completion of the renovation to our theater.
