A Message from the President
May 20, 2009
Dear Queensborough Faculty, Staff and Students,
We are all aware of the impact that the H1N1 flu has had on the school population in New York City, Long Island, and in our own Borough of Queens. I want to remind you of the importance of remaining vigilant in creating as sanitary an environment as possible here at Queensborough. To that end, I want to reinforce the critical importance of proper hygiene to reduce the spread of germs on the campus. Frequent hand washing is essential for each and every one of us.
We continue to track developments and take precautionary measures in accordance to New York City Department of Health and Mental Health (NYCDOHMH) and CUNY’s Central Administration directives to promote the health and well-being of the Queensborough community. We have distributed disinfectant wipes to each administrative and academic office for you to use on door knobs, door plates and on high-traffic surfaces to reduce the spread of germs. We have posted signs in each bathroom reminding all of the critical importance of hand washing and have kept cleaning solutions well-stocked in bathroom facilities.
I do want you to know that we were informed yesterday by the NYCDOHMH of a confirmed case of H1N1 virus in one of our students. A resident of Nassau County, the student is no longer ill. I am very grateful for this fact and that, according to the NYCDOHMH, this student poses no infection risk to the Queensborough community.
However, I urge anyone who is feeling the symptoms of the flu (fever, cough, sore throat, lethargy, nausea, etc.) to immediately leave campus and seek medical assistance. If you need immediate medical attention, or are not sure if you have the symptoms of the H1N1 swine flu, contact the College’s Health Services office at 718-631-6375, located in the Medical Arts Building, lower level, MC-02.
Please remember that our health comes first and that the College will make every effort to assist any student who misses an exam due to illness.

Thank you for your cooperation and close attention to this matter.
Sincerely,

Eduardo J. Martí
President of the College
