Letter sent to new members via e-mail.

Hello,

We just downloaded the January membership list and found your name listed as
a new member.  We would like to welcome you to the NY Section and give you
some information so that you can take advantage of one of the most active
local sections of the ACS.

The New York Section is composed of six geographical subsections that hold
monthly meetings on a variety of general topics.  We also have eleven
topical discussion groups that focus on specialized areas of chemistry.  All
of these meetings are free except when food is involved.

The INDICATOR is the official means of communication within the New York and
North Jersey sections.  There is a website at http://theINDICATOR.org and
those without an e-mail address or who prefer, will receive a hardcopy.  The
electronic copy of the INDICATOR is posted approximately two weeks before
the hardcopy is mailed.

The NY Section has two major events.  The first is the January SECTIONWIDE
conference that will be on January 21, 2006 at Pace University in
Westchester (see the INDICATOR for details).  The second major event is the
William H. Nichols Distinguished Symposium and Award Banquet.  This will be
on March 10, 2006 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in White Plains, NY.  This Year
we honor Professor Barry Sharpless.  We hope that you and your colleagues
will be able to attend this event.

The ACS is a "society" that means that it allows you to be as active as you
want.  The officers and the section office strive to maximize the ability of
our members to generate ideas, programs and events that have made the New
York Section the best large section in the ACS for 10 of the last 16 years.
We encourage you to get involved and continue the tradition.

Sincerely,
Neil Jespersen
Membership Committee Chair
