ABOUT THE MET/DD PROGRAM

The Mechanical Engineering Technology/Design Drafting Department (MET/DD) at Queensborough Community College offers two Associate in Applied Science courses of study which include:

  • Mechanical Engineering Technology
  • Computerized Architectural and Industrial Design

Additionally one year certificate programs in Computerized Manufacturing Technology and Computerized Architectural Design and Drafting are also available.

A brief description of these programs is found on the attachment.

The MET/DD Department maintains ten laboratory rooms nine of which contain state-of-art equipment. Two of the laboratories contain 20 computer workstations running the latest CAD application packages. The computer laboratory in T-01 runs manufacturing software and the lab in S-318 runs vizualization, animation and solid modeling applications suitable for architectural and engineering applications.

The four computer labs are all networked and are connected to the college network and to the internet. In addition, all of the computer labs are equipped with the latest lecture presentation system ( Netop School), which enables the instructor to broadcast material to every computer and monitor each workstation. Smartboard projection systems are also included in some of the laboratories.

The Industrial Processes Laboratory in T-01 contains modern production quality CNC Machines, two CMM’s a 3D prototyping machine and a new four axis CNC Wire EDM machine.

The department has six full time faculty one of which has a Ph.D, one holds a PE license and an M.E. and M.S. Mechanical Engineering, another is a registered Architect with an M.S. in Architecture and a fourth member holds an M.S. in Industrial Engineering. The fifth member has a B.M.E. and sixth member has B.A. degree in Architecture. Together they have a considerable number of years of industrial engineering experience. The faculty members are highly qualified. Two have published two editions of a textbook in their field. They have also secured a National Science Foundation (NSF) Grant, several New York State VATEA Grants and a number of local government grants, all of which have enabled the department to remain at the forefront of engineering technology education.

Please feel free to contact Dr. James V. Valentino, Chairperson Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology/Design Drafting at 718-631-6294 if you have any questions or would like any additional information about our programs.

We are happy to arrange tours of our facilities for those interested in a career in technology. Arrangements can also be made to send a representative from the department to speak to classes on career days.
