Department of Health, Physical Education, and Dance
Associate in Arts (A.A.) Degree in Physical Education
The following course of study is recommended for students who plan careers in physical education or related areas. Students may change the sequence and the selection of courses in line with their goals and their interests. Pre-majors in physical education should consult the chairperson of the Department as soon as possible for guidance in planning a program.
Semester 1
English Composition I (En-101): 3 credits
History (HI-110, 111, or 112): 3 credits
Introduction to Art of Dance (PE-711): 3 credits
Foreign Language: 3-4 credits
Physical Education or Dance: 1 credit
Semester 2
English Composition II (EN-102): 3 credits
History (selected from HI-100 series): 3 credits
Foreign Language: 3-4 credits
General Biology I (BI-201): 4 credits
Health Education (HE-102): 2 credits
Physical Education or Dance: 1 credit
Semester 3
English elective: 3 credits
Psychology (SS-510): 3 credits
Speech Communication (SP-211): 3 credits
General Biology II (BI-202)*: 4 credits
Physical Education: 2 credits
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (HE-110): 1 credit
Semester 4
Mathematics: 3-4 credits
Human Growth and Development (SS-520): 3 credits
Liberal Arts and Science electives: 4 credits
Electives (Health Education, Physical Education,
and/or Liberal Arts): 4-6 credits
Please Note: A minimum of 60 credits is required for the A.A. degree.
*Students who plan to transfer to Queens College should take BI-301 and 302 and see the Departmental adviser.
