ARE YOU READY FOR REGISTRATION?

Have you been officially accepted to Queensborough for the Spring 2010 semester?
If you have NOT yet heard about your admissions status, call the Admissions Office at 718-281-5000.
New students are understandably anxious to meet with an academic advisor and get registered for classes. Please understand that the priority is now on our continuing students. Advisement for incoming freshmen is launched in early December, with new transfer advisement starting in mid-December and running through January.
Have you taken the CUNY ASSESSMENT TEST?
If not, learn more about testing and assessment here
If you have taken the appropriate section(s) of the CUNY ASSESSMENT TEST, or (for transfer students), you do not need to take one or more sections of this test, then please refer to the appropriate category below for information on advisement and registration scheduling.
BUT FIRST!
New York State requires that all students submit proof of immunization for measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) before they may register for any college class. Be sure to submit this documentation BEFORE your advisement appointment. You need to also complete a meningitis response form. Learn more
FRESHMEN!
Every incoming freshmen will join one of our six FRESHMAN ACADEMIES. Learn more. You will gain an introduction to your academy at your advisement and registration session.
All incoming freshmen must take one or more sections of the CUNY Assessment Test. If you are exempt from the Math, Reading and Writing sections of the test based on specific New York State Regents or your scores on the SAT or ACT exams, you still need, however, to take the ADVANCED MATH section of the CUNY Assessment Test.
NOTE: If you do not have a testing appointment or need information on which tests you need to take, please contact the Office of Testing at 718-631-6358.
Why take the Advanced Math test? Your performance on this section of the Math test can save you time and money. If you do well on this section, you may be able to move ahead in any required math courses you need for your program of study. There is NO negative consequence to you if you do not do well on this section. This testing requires less than one hour of your time.
YOU WILL RECEIVE AN APPOINTMENT FOR ACADEMIC ADVISEMENT AND REGISTRATION AT YOUR CUNY ASSESSMENT TEST APPOINTMENT.
Advisement and registration sessions are conducted by the FRESHMAN COORDINATOR for your Freshman Academy. Please make sure that we have the correct information on what you intend to study at Queensborough. If your plans have changed, (refer to your letter of admission for the program of study to which you were admitted), please email us at Freshmen@qcc.cuny.edu or contact Freshman Academy for your intended program of study.
Advisement dates are usually scheduled within three weeks of your test date. Advisement begins in December and runs through January for the spring semester.
TRANSFERS
You will be notified of your academic advisement appointment in one of two ways:
- If you need to take one or more parts of the CUNY Assessment Test, you will be given an appointment for advisement at your testing session. You will be notified by the University Application Processing Center (UAPC) or by the College’s Admissions Office of a testing date. (Advisement dates usually take place within three weeks of your testing session.
- If you do NOT need to take the CUNY Assessment Test, you will receive a letter from the Office of New Student Enrollment Services informing you of your date for academic advisement. This letter will be mailed to you within a few weeks of your acceptance for admission.
Transfer student advisement begins in mid-December and runs through January for the Spring 2010 semester.
Our goal is to schedule dates for academic advisement that allow ample time for us to fully evaluate your previous college work. Therefore, please understand that you will not be advised until your evaluation(s) are completed. We want you to be able to build upon your coursework to date.
Transfer students seeking admission to the Nursing program: Please be informed that it is highly unlikely that you will be able to register for certain “high-demand” classes, such as Anatomy & Physiology. As a transfer student, you can respect our registration cycle which does focus on continuing students first.
If you need additional information, please email us at Transfers@qcc.cuny.edu. If you have questions about the status of the evaluation of your previous college work, you may email transferevaluatons@qcc.cuny.edu
TRANSFERS WITH ADVANCED FOREIGN STANDING
We want to build your education at Queensborough on any credits which may be counted toward your degree. It is important that you contact the chairpersons for each academic department and discuss transfer credit possibilities with them. Be sure to provide them with a copy of your transcript from abroad and, if necessary, with an English translation of the coursework. You will be assigned an advisement date in January.
TRANSFERS WITH BACHELORS DEGREES
You will be scheduled for an advisement and registration date in January. Please make sure that you provide the required immunization documents prior to your advisement date.
Registration Alert: Many incoming transfer students wish to pursue specific courses in preparation for a second degree or change in career plans. Please be advised that certain courses, including Anatomy & Physiology, are high-demand courses usually filled by our continuing students. You will be assigned to an advisement date in January.
NEW NON-DEGREE STUDENTS
If you are planning to pursue the New York State high school equivalency, you must take the CUNY ASSESSMENT TEST. Following your test, you will receive notice of an advisement and registration appointment.
If you are a new non-degree student with a high school diploma, please know that academic advisement is NOT required prior to your registration. You will be able to register in January for the spring semester. Specific information on your registration date will be included in your letter of acceptance from the Admissions Office. Should you wish to meet with an academic advisor, please contact the Academic Advisement Center, located in Room 434 of the Library, or email advisement@qcc.cuny.edu
