» María Teresa Angulo

María Teresa Angulo nació en Ibagué, Colombia, donde aprendió el arte del repujado en cobre, estaño y cuero. Cursó estudios de escultura, dibujo y música en el Conservatorio de dicha ciudad. En Bogotá estudió de filosofía y psicología. Becada por el Ministerio de Educación Nacional y el Instituto de Cultura Hispánica de Colombia, la artista prosiguió sus estudios en la Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando de Madrid, y en la escuela de Francisco Peña, también en Madrid. En Nueva York, donde reside, ha estudiado retrato y composición con Thomas Fogarty y Kenneth McIndoe; acuarela con Mario Cooper y Frederick Wong; pastel, figura y naturaleza muerta con Lisa Specht y también color y composición con Terence Coyle. María Teresa Angulo fue profesora de dibujo y obras manuales en la Escuela Normal femenina de Ibagué y profesora de dibujo y cuero repujado en Bogotá. Desde su translado a NY, ha trabajado con textiles en Guarini Studios y en Lowenstein & Sons como colorista y diseñadora de estampados. A partir de 1885, María Teresa Angulo se ha dedicado exclusivamente a la pintura. A lo largo de su extensa carrera artística (de 1953 al presente), María Teresa Angulo ha exhibido sus obras en Colombia, España, EE UU y Puerto Rico. María Teresa Angulo was born in Ibagué, Colombia. Since an early age, she learned the art of “repujado”, (repoussage) using copper, pewter and leather. In her native city, she studied sculpture, drawing and music. In Bogotá, she studied psychology and philosophy. After being awarded a two years fellowship, she continued her artistic training in The Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid, Spain; and in the private school of Francisco Peña, also in Madrid. In New York, María Teresa Angulo attended the Art Students League where she learned portrait, composition, still nature, watercolor, pastel painting, figure sketching and color with Thomas Fogarty, Kenneth McIndoe, Mario Cooper, Frederic Wong, Lisa Specht and Terence Coyle. The artist began her career in Colombia as an instructor of drawing, arts and crafts, and “repujado” (repoussage). In NY, she has worked in textiles in Guarini Studios, and as a color expert and printed fabric designer in Lowenstein & Sons. Since 1985, the artist is devoted exclusively to her art. She has participated in many art exhibitions since 1953. Her work has been exhibited in Colombia, Puerto Rico, Spain and the USA.
