Facilities

Support for our new multimedia laboratory facilities was provided by the College, NSF, Borough of Queens, and CUNY. The facilities include: a Digital Laboratory which adds computers, computer controlled equipment (power supplies, function generators, and oscilloscopes), and data acquisition hardware and software to the traditional electronics work-bench; and a Multimedia-Networks laboratory with Pentium computers on a local area network with removable hard drives, LAN re-configuration patch-panels, and a Classnet® video distribution system from Minicom Systems. Both of these facilities allow for the delivery of multimedia courseware developed in our NSF projects.

The Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology Department operates up-to-date laboratories for student use including electrical circuits, semiconductor and electrical machinery, microwave and communications, feedback control systems, digital computers, and CAD laboratories. All student computers are connected to the Department's LAN (Local Area Network). Many laboratory areas also provide up-to-date computer stations using multi-media presentations and data acquisition as part of the laboratory operation. The laboratories contain professional-level measurement and calibration equipment, such as might be used in a well-equipped industrial laboratory. In addition, an amateur radio station, WB2KYF, operates on all modes of amateur transmission and is available to licensed radio amateurs. The Department also sponsors an IEEE club and a repair club.
