Maria Saltas, Ed.M.

Degrees: B.A. in Psychology & English from Stony Brook University; M.A. & Ed.M. in Psychological Counseling from Teachers College, Columbia University

Professional Affiliation: Member of the American Counseling Association

Counseling Interests: Short-term counseling with emphasis on adjusting to college, academic success, and career exploration, as well as helping people better understand and cope with symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Counseling Approach: My main focus is to work with people on reaching their goals.  To successfully do so, I believe that there must be active listening, unconditional acceptance, and honesty on my part as a counselor.  At the same time, the person seeking counseling should be open to self-exploration in order to gain an understanding of their symptoms, behaviors, and experiences.  From there, a plan for change can be developed and set in motion.
