How do I change by curriculum?

Pick up a Change of Curriculum form at either the office of The Registrar or the Counseling office (L-422). A counselor or faculty member must review the form, discuss your reasons for this change, and then sign the form. Then the student drops off the form at the Office of the Registrar. You will be notified by the Registrar when the change of curriculum has been made.

What do I do when I think I am ready to graduate?

You MUST file for graduation at the Office of the Registrar. The Registrar will review your transcript and inform you officially in writing whether you qualify to graduate. You may schedule an appointment with a counselor (L–422) or your academic advisor to review your transcript and make sure that you are on the correct track for graduation. The latter process, however, does not guarantee that you are eligible to graduate.

What is Academic Advisement?

Academic Advisement is an in-person meeting with a Counselor/Advisor to discuss the classes you should take in accordance with the curriculum that you are following to graduate or transfer. This meeting is necessary in order to register early and thereby obtain the schedule you desire.

I don't know what classes to take. What should I take?

You should take the classes that are listed as part of your curriculum. You can find your curriculum and all the required classes you need in the QCC catalog, which is conveniently located on-line. If you are undecided about your career goal or what curriculum you should take, many students start by choosing Liberal Arts. Following the Liberal Arts curriculum provides a selection of general education courses required in almost any field of study, and is recommended as a guide for undecided students.

When can I transfer?

Do my classes transfer to a four- year college?

Students can find Queensborough course equivalents at senior CUNY colleges by logging on to the Internet at www.tipps.cuny.edu. Please know that the transfer college ultimately has the final decision on courses they will accept. For equivalents at senior SUNY or private colleges, please speak to an admissions counselor at those specific colleges.

If I passed the placement test, why do I still need to take a remedial class?

The CUNY placement test results do not necessarily exempt you from the remedial courses. You still may need to take a remedial course if your score was not at least a 70 on the reading, a 7 on the writing and a 20 from parts two and three combined in the Math.

What is an "INC" grade?

An INC is an incomplete grade. It does not affect your GPA, however it might affect eligibility status for financial aid. You are not given credit for this class for the current semester; however if you complete all missing assignments and tests, you will receive credit for the class the following semester. It is up to you as a student to seek out your professor the following semester to complete all missed assignments or tests for the class. You may not re-register for this class. A grade will be submitted the following semester depending on your work. If you do not make up the missing work by the end of the semester following the one in which you received the INC, you will receive a grade of FIN, which is the same as receiving a grade of F.

What is a “WU” grade?

If you do not officially withdraw from a class and stop attending class for whatever reason or if you are absent too much from a class, the professor will assign you a grade of a “WU."  A “WU” is equivalent to an “F," which is the same as a "0."  A “0” will be entered into the calculation of your GPA, which will bring it down significantly. BE AWARE that all students must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA in order to graduate and be in good academic standing.

On the schedule of classes I see things like LC, PNET, FNET, LATE and ASAP under the section column.  What do these mean?

ASAP stands for the Accelerated Study in Associate Programs and is only open to ASAP students.  If you are not part of ASAP, you can not register for that specific section.

LC stands for Learning Community.  It is a course that is linked to another class or classes.  In order to take that section, you must register for and take the courses they are linked to, which should be noted on the schedule of classes.  In a learning community, all the students in one class will be the same in the other classes.  Also, your teachers will be working together, and may give you shared reading or assignments.  However, make sure all the classes that are linked are courses you have not already taken and are in your major before registering for them.

PNET is a partially on line class.  Much of the work in done on line, and only part of the class is held on campus.  Students who choose to register for a partially on line class should be computer literate and follow any directions noted on the schedule of classes.

FNET is a fully on line class.  Students who choose to register for a fully on line class should be computer literate and follow any directions noted on the schedule of classes.

LATE stands for late start.  These sections will start later than the first day of classes, but will still end on the same date as all other courses at the end of the semester.  Please look at the dates listed on the schedule of classes for the specific late start dates.
