Meet Your Counselors

Dr. Sandra Bygrave, Ph.D.

Degrees: BA, New York University,
              MA, Ph.D, Hofstra University

Counseling Interest: Helping new immigrant students adjust to American college and society in general. Working with adolescents and young adults regarding various adjustment issues. Working with returning students to help them develop and implement plans to meet their academic and career goals.

Counseling Focus: Is a Psychologist for 17 years, counseling students who are experiencing emotional difficulties, referral to outside agencies; working with students who are at risk for dropping out of college and who need support to get them through college. Works with the Office of International Student Affairs regarding immigration issues.

Publications/ Presentations: Has published and presented in the area of adjustment issues and academic performance of international students on College campus, anxiety and its impact on test performance, and Special Education students and the way they are served in the school system.

Professional affiliation: American Psychological Association

Other Interests: Gardening, working out (aerobics and weight training) reading, raising my three sons, gospel singing, tutoring/teaching young children
