Teaching Philosophy
I believe that the true meaning of teaching should extend beyond the classroom. I believe that the development of a faculty member in a teaching institution such as Queensborough must involve the students. I am an ardent supporter of frequent testing (as many as seven per semester) and believe in the ability of my better students to conduct workshops for the courses they have just completed. I frequently take my students to the American Chemical Society seminars as well as other talks by invited faculty and require that they submit a written summary. I also believe that a student masters the problem only when he works it out on the blackboard and is forced to explain the answer to the rest of the class. Moreover doing supervised research, however miniscule this may be, is the best way to use judgment in decision making and data interpretation.
Research Interests
Application of basic chemistry in microscale experiments; synthesis of tricoordinate organosulfur compounds
Synthesis, reactivity and electrochemistry of tri-coordinate organosulfur compounds with resaerch groups at Georgetown University and the National Bureau of Standards.
