The College has been informed
that the Committee on Minority Affairs of the American Chemical Society has
selected the QCC Chemistry Department as the
Middle Atlantic Regional recipient of the Stanley C. Israel Regional Award for
Advancing Diversity in the Chemical Sciences.
The award letter impressively
lauds the Department, identifying it as “a leader in involving two-year college
students in research and professional activities that encourage them into
pursuing careers in chemistry and associated sciences.” It is particularly commendable that the
Department was recognized for its service to under-represented minority
students and that it was cited for going “the extra mile in ensuring best
experiences, mentoring, and guidance.” The committee also recognized and
commented upon the value of the Department faculty’s committed attention to
students’ intellectual achievement and personal well-being and noted that this
attention has resulted in “real gains for students and the profession.”
This is a most significant
recognition for the Chemistry Department faculty and staff. I am pleased to offer my congratulations and
express appreciation for their service to our students as well as for this
noteworthy award.
