Legislator

Overview: Develop laws and statutes at the Federal, State, or local level.
Duties:
Degree(s): A.A.S. Management: Marketing Concentration 
A.S. Business Administration (Accounting and Marketing) 
Job Outlook: Employment of legislators is expected to grow as fast as average through 2018. Job growth for legislators will stem from the rising demand for services at the State and local levels particularly demand for public safety and health services. Two factors are fueling the growth of these services: an increasing population and the assumption of responsibility by State and local governments for some services previously provided by the Federal Government.
Education Level: This occupation generally requires an advanced degree (e.g. Ph.D.). The typical commitment is a minimum of 3 years of study beyond a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree.

  • Paying attention to what other people are saying, and taking time to understand the points being made.
  • Allocating and budgeting your time for different tasks so that things get done when needed.
  • The ability to understand complex written paragraphs, instructions, or reports.
  • Talking, giving speeches, or speaking in a group to convey information, explain ideas, or give instructions.
  • Composing and communicating your ideas in written form.
