|Overview:||Fashion artists draw and sketch wearing apparel and accessories for men and women to be used in advertisements, illustrations for magazines, catalogs and newspapers. They confer with fashion designers to identify clothings most important features, attend fashion shows and study new fashion designs.|
|Duties:||They create drawings and sketches of women's and men's clothing and accessories for use in advertisements.
They decide upon artistic techniques to be used to make consumers aware of the most important features of the new fashions.
They attend fashion shows to determine how to best artistically differentiate between new fashions.
They confer with fashion designers to determine the test media and artistic techniques to use for different types of consumer groups.

|Job Outlook:||Employment of fashion artists is expected to show little or no change through 2018. An increasing population’s demand for new and stylish affordable clothing will create need. Although apparel production is increasing done overseas, firms are likely to keep design work in house.|
|Salary Range (National Average):||$27,000 to $32,000|
|Education Level:||Training for this occupation generally requires an Associate Degree from a 2 year or community college.|
|Additional Training/Education:||A college degree from a college or fashion design or art school is the usual required training. Coursework in fashion design, commercial art, studio arts, and computer-assisted design are beneficial. A portfolio with examples of your best art work is suggested.|
Understanding acquiring positions in this field may be enhanced through continuing academic study (i.e. earning a baccalaureate or a master's degree) and/or work experience in the field, Queensborough Community College has established transfer agreements with other institutions for students who wish to further pursue their educational goals.
