Market Research Analyst
|Overview:||Market research analysts design and and statistically analyze the results of market surveys and opinion polls to make decisions about potential sales, specifications, and prices for products and services. They design sales strategies based on buyer preferences, the market, and competition.|
|Duties:||Design survey questionnaires and interviews to collect data from potential cutomers about their receptivity and needs for new products and services.
Statistically analyze survey data to see how customers in different industries, locations, and size differ in their needs and how much they are willing to spend for new products.
Make decisions about design specifications for new products, their prices, and the marketing strategy to sell the products or services. They also estimate sales volume and revenue forecasts.
Make oral presentations to executives to recommend the types of product lines and services to consider for the future based on the results of their surveys. Prepare written summary reports.

|Job Outlook:||Employment of market research analysts is expected to grow faster than average through 2018 because of competition among companies seeking to expand their market and sales of their products. In addition, globalization of the marketplace creates a need for more market researchers to analyze foreign markets.|
|Salary Range (National Average):||$33,000 to $38,000|
|Education Level:||Typically, a Bachelor’s Degree from a 4-year college (some are 5 years) is required to be considered for this occupation.|
|Additional Training/Education:||A Bachelor's degree with a major in marketing, business administration or economics is appropriate for most entry level positions. Because of the importance of quantitative skills in market research, courses in mathematics, statistics, econometrics, survey design and computer science are recommended. Graduate training and an MBA are important for advancement.|
Understanding acquiring positions in this field may be enhanced through continuing academic study (i.e. earning a baccalaureate or a master's degree) and/or work experience in the field, Queensborough Community College has established transfer agreements with other institutions for students who wish to further pursue their educational goals.
