CALL FOR PROPOSALS
CUNY's 7th Annual IT Conference
John Jay College of Criminal Justice
Friday, December 5, 2008
"Instructional/Information Technology in CUNY:
The Catalyst for Transformational Change"
The City University of New York will hold its 7th annual all-day conference devoted to instructional and information technology the first Friday in December 2008. The conference will offer an overview of the University's key IT initiatives, an opportunity to explore how technology is changing instruction, research, and administration, and an occasion to hear from CUNY’s faculty and IT leaders as well as to meet with vendors.
The concurrent sessions will provide a rich array of presentations, encompassing a broad range of topics of interest to CUNY faculty, technology staff, and college administrators, giving attendees a greater sense of the educational and administrative opportunities that IT makes possible and the roles faculty, students, and staff have in the ever-changing landscape of technology use.
For this year's conference we are especially interested in the following points of focus:
1. Proven Practices:
How has change move beyond trends and trials in our instructional and administrative practices? What innovations deserve to be extended and duplicated?
2. Systemizations: How can we make (or are we making) the positive changes more integral and synergistic across our organizations? Are we moving beyond "random acts of innovation" to more orchestrated steps forward in teaching and administration? 3. Disseminations: What are we doing in the way of training and mentoring? How are we spreading the word about positive change to colleagues, introducing them to new techniques and technologies, new strategies and directions?
4. Horizon Events: What changes are on our horizon that promise to be catalytic? How do we distill out the merely trendy trends from the consequential changes we need to learn to live with, the ones that will make our future present?
Proposals should be between a paragraph and a page in length, and should include a title as well as the name and campus affiliation of each presenter. (Proposals may be made for group as well as individual presentations.) Submit a proposal using the form at
http://www.dln.cuny.edu/it/proposals.html
Proposals are due by 9/15/08. Acceptances will be announced by the end of that month.
Presentation titles from last year's conference ("Instructional/Information Technology in CUNY: Entry Points, Efficiencies, Visions for the Future") are accessible at
