Tutoring Information
We at the Basic Skills Learning Center know that our students are not all the same. Consequently, not all students attend Basic Educational Skills courses for the same reason. Some may be striving to gain the mastery of English required by city standards to attend two- or four-year college programs. Some may simply be refreshing their skills in order to attend classes at city and private universities.
Because all of our students come from different backgrounds, their needs are different. Some may learn faster than others; some may require additional support.
The Basic Skills Learning Center's tutors are available to fill that supporting role.
All of our tutors are teachers, college graduates or current students, so they understand perfectly the needs of their tutees. They attend a mandatory Tutor Training Program to ensure that they can deliver the required educational support. Best of all, their services are absolutely free to any student enrolled in a Basic Educational Skills course at Queensborough Community College.
Our tutors are also highly accessible: not only do they facilitate Workshops but they are also on hand in the Learning Center (H-237) and Computer Lab (H-239) to assist students with assignments. Students know their tutors on a first-name basis and are free to work with their favorite tutor if schedules allow.
Stop by the BSLC to make a tutoring appointment. We are very accommodating.
