Jeffrey A. Kurnit
Title: Chairman, Basic Educational Skills Department, Assistant Professor
Jeffrey Kurnit received his B.A. from Columbia University (1968) and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Fordham University (1974 and 1983). After beginning his career as a special education teacher, he began teaching college level English in 1975 and taught at Fordham University, Northeastern University, Pace University, Mercy College, and Iona College before coming to Queensborough in 1985. He served the Department of Basic Educational Skills as Co-Director of the Writing Lab, College Now Course Coordinator, and Deputy Chair before becoming Chair in 2003. In addition to his work at the College, Dr. Kurnit is active as a singer and actor, primarily with The Village Light Opera Group in Manhattan, an organization with which he has been involved for more than thirty years and which he serves as Secretary to the Board of Directors. Dr. Kurnit and his wife Abby, also an educator, have been married for thirty-five years and have two grown children.
