Faculty Biography
Helene Dunkelblau

Dr. Dunkelblau is presently an Assistant Professor of ESL in the Basic Educational Skills Department.  Before coming to Queensborough, she was the coordinator of the NYU/BASIS Training for All Teachers Program, a federally funded professional development program that trained content area high school teachers in methods and techniques for working with ESL students.  Dr. Dunkelblau has taught graduate courses in second language methodology and bilingual/multicultural education at New York University, and basic skills courses at Baruch College.  She spent a year at Shanghai Teachers University teaching writing and graduate courses in language methodology and second language acquisition, and was a bilingual resource specialist in the Chinese Bilingual Program at Seward Park High School in New York City.  She speaks and reads Mandarin Chinese.  Her current research interests are in holistic educational approaches to teaching and reflective practice.  Dr. Dunkelblau received her Ph.D. in (Chinese) Bilingual Education from New York University.  She has a Masters degree from Seton Hall University in Language Teaching, and her BA is from the City College of New York in Asian Studies.
