| Artist Bio |
Arriving in New York from the Pacific Northwest in the heady years of the mid 1970s, Erin Butler found artistic sustenance sketching in the streets, haunting museums and galleries and studying at the Art Students League with painters Knox Martin, Richard Pousette-Dart and later, Frank O’Cain. Loft studios in East Harlem and South Brooklyn were the proving ground before Long Island City. Recognizable imagery, mixed media and grassroots collaborative exhibitions marked the period. Her work is represented in private collections internationally and she is an executive coordinator of Women in the Arts Foundation. She has had three solo exhibitions (one in Jamaica, Queens) and group shows in Japan, Korea and throughout the U.S., including all five boroughs of New York City.
