Artist Bio Rosetta Bentz She was born in Calabria, Italy and came to this country as an infant and settled in Long Island City with her family. She started painting in her early 30’s and has studied painting and collage-making at the Art Student’s League in New York City, paper-making at the Deui Donne Paper Mill, Sumi-e painting with Koho Yamamoto and sculpture at the Fashion Institute of Technology. She is spontaneous in her approach to the creative process. She paints from memories, moods and impressions. Her recent expression has taken her down the path of the “scape” -- land and sea. She is endlessly fascinated by the earth’s beauty -- the power, the stillness, the rawness, the abstractness, the seemingly irregularity and the perfection of nature. Her work is lively and inspirational and her affinity for color and the heavy use of the palette knife are evident in a body of work that shouts with life, urgency, anticipation and new beginnings.
