Dr. Sandra Palmer, Dean of Faculty, came to QCC as Dean of Faculty with twenty-three years’ experience in higher education. She started her career at Suffolk County Community College as a member of the faculty and moved into administration as Department Chair, Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs, College Associate Dean of Visual and Performing Arts, and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs.
Prior to coming to QCC, Dr. Palmer served as Provost and Chief Academic Officer at Manchester Community College in Manchester, Connecticut and Chief Academic Officer at Naugatuck Valley Community College in Waterbury, Connecticut. She has published articles on topics related to succession management, collaboration between academic and student affairs, and developmental education. She has made several presentations on college readiness specifically as it relates to Connecticut’s Public Act No. 12-40 requiring colleges to offer students remedial support through embedded and intensive/one semester courses to enable them to pass through more quickly and begin college level work.
Dr. Palmer earned her Ph.D. in art history from the University of Chicago, and holds a Master’s degree in art history from the same institution. She also holds a Master’s degree in business administration from Adelphi University, and a Bachelor’s degree in art history from the University of California, Davis.
Dr. Palmer’s focus is to continually improve the quality of teaching, learning, and student support. “Students come first, and it is to their success that gives all of us the desire to move forward.”
