ASAP SUMMER INSTITUTE
The ASAP Program at Queensborough Community College is committed to providing students with the best possible college experience. We designed a comprehensive program that began in spring 2007 with three “ASAP Welcome” events, held on Wednesday, March 28; Wednesday, April 4; and Tuesday, May 8, 2007, the QCC New Student Welcome from 4-6:30 PM. Information sessions were held every Tuesday and Wednesday at 6 PM through the month of June. Course work during the ASAP Summer session ran from July 2 to August 2, 2007, Mondays through Thursdays. The ASAP Summer Institute culminated in a four-day ASAP College Experience, held August 20-23, 2007.
Students and their families were invited to come to the QCC campus to the ASAP Welcome events, where ASAP staff, admissions personnel, student managers, and other QCC faculty and staff were present. A general welcome and introduction to the College was followed by a brief informational ASAP introduction geared to all students and parents. Then "invited" and "conditional" ASAP students and families attended a special ASAP Welcome session, where they were informed of the extra support to be provided, the different curricula, the ways in which the block programs work, financial aid matters, and the employment aspect of the ASAP program. Students were asked to read and sign the ASAP enrollment agreement. They were introduced to their respective student managers and then registered into their appropriate summer classes and (contingent) fall block programs. Any questions about testing and financial aid matters for both the summer and fall 2007 semesters were answered.
